THE FUTURE OF WINCUP: A MAJOR TOURNAMENT ECOSYSTEM UPDATE

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

Thanks to our players and fans, WINCUP is one of the fastest-growing table tennis leagues of today. Between the war-sport balance and nail-biter overtimes, our team is off to an exciting launch. Starting on September 1, 2022, we are introducing major evolutions to the WINCUP competitive ecosystem that will create an even better player and fan experience and propel WINCUP to become the #1 table tennis league in Europe.

More details on every layer of the ecosystem will be delivered over the course of the year, but we'd like to show you where we're headed. Are you ready?

NEW TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

This new structure was created to provide you with more WINCUP tournaments at every level — from the players qualifying to reach their season stage to premier-level Grand Finals. Here's what it looks like.

1. Division tiers

From now on, WINCUP tournaments have a ranking system, matching athletes of a similar skill level to play with and against each other. It comprises six tiers that indicate the athletes’ skill level. Athletes within each division are ranked using a system of points called WINCUP Rankings.

A player's ranking is determined using special formula and is directly affected by the number of wins and losses. The ranking is calculated after each tournament. If an athlete's ranking after the competition corresponds to a higher or lower tier, he is automatically transferred to the corresponding division.

2. Seasons

Starting this September, a yearly Event Calendar will be split into four seasons, each lasting three months. All seasons will feature qualifying matches. Throughout the season, athletes compete against each other within their divisions. At the end of three months, the four players with the highest points advance to the Season Finale.

All season winners in each division will compete in the WINCUP Grand Finals in August.

PLAYERS AND FANS FIRST

We're building a player-driven competitive ecosystem that will inspire generations of future table tennis superstars. We recognize the expectations of the growing global audience, and we're here to meet them. Here's a look at what's coming:

1. Open application process

Sometimes it's not enough to watch. If you've got the skills, it's time to compete. An open tournament application form will give every athlete a chance to feel what it's like to compete like a professional and an opportunity to work toward their ambitions. We're excited to see how this system will help foster and highlight up-and-coming talent in addition to the standard ranked ladder.

2. Leaderboard ranking

Athletes' personal track records will be presented on leaderboards within each division and updated after each tournament.

With this addition will come the ability to track a player’s progress from season to season.

Over the course of the next few months, we’ll provide additional details on each layer of the new ecosystem and use everything we learned from the past year to supercharge WINCUP competitions into the next level of tournament organization.

Thank you for all the support, and let’s keep in touch,

Team WSH
